Frequently Asked Questions

We know you likely have questions regarding your child’s experience at Greendale, so we’ve compiled a list of our most frequently asked questions with their answers below. Please read through this information, and give us a call if you still have questions. What is the dress code at Greendale?

We expect our students to dress in a way that shows respect for themselves, for others, and for their school by not distracting from our positive learning environment. Specifically:

  • Clothing should not promote drugs, alcohol, weapons, gang violence, sexuality, or racial prejudice.
  • Clothing should not expose the midriff, armpits, underwear, or cleavage.
  • Clothing and accessories should not be potentially damaging to property (such as chains, wheeled shoes, or studded jewelry) or dangerous to oneself (inappropriate footwear, excessively long pants/skirts).
  • Head gear and sunglasses may not be worn in the building (including hats, scarves, bandanas, and hoodies).
  • All tattoos must be covered.

What if my child becomes ill or needs medication while at school?

If a student becomes ill, we will attempt to notify a parent or guardian promptly, and we will care for the student in our nurse’s station until a parent or guardian arrives. Students may not leave school grounds without a parent or another approved adult (as listed on the student’s information form). If the situation is a medical emergency, we will follow standard emergency procedures. Any student requiring medication during school hours must turn that medication over to our nurse and provide a written and dated consent form that details student and medication name, dosage, and times for treatment and any other necessary directions. All prescription medications must be in their original container with an attached pharmacy label. Students may only self-administer life-saving medications, such as asthma inhalers and EpiPens.

What is your cell phone policy?

Students may not use any electronic and other personal device brought from home, including cell phones, during school hours, except with express teacher permission. We recommend not bringing such devices to school, as they have a tendency to get lost, stolen, or damaged (and we will not be liable for them). If you need to contact your child during school hours, please call our front office.

Can I visit the school?

Absolutely, you are welcome to visit our school, contact your child’s teacher, and volunteer as much as you would like. However, we do ask that for the safety of all our students, you check in at the office before proceeding throughout the building or grounds. Lunch time is a great opportunity to visit your child. If you would like to have lunch with your child, just let us know, and we can set up a private area for you. For adult school lunch pricing, please visit our district’s Food Services page.

Does my child really get to bring home the school-supplied Chromebook?

Yes. Our district’s 1-1 program issues Chromebooks to each of our students for anytime, anywhere learning. We loan students the Chromebooks, much like textbooks, with the understanding that students will use and care for them appropriately and replace them if they damage or lose them. Our students are welcome to take their issued Chromebook home each evening as long as they remember to bring them back to school (fully charged) and ready for another day of learning.
